What happens to the clothes/accessories that actors and actresses wear for a movie?
The clothes/accessories that are given to them to wear when they act the part of their characters. Since they don’t get to keep the clothes, what happens to them?
And what happens to the props on movie sets? The ones that aren’t sold or auctioned off? Do they get put in storage? If they do get stored away, it seems like such a waste to me.
At wrap up the clothes (costumes) go various places. Some return to the wardrobe department, some go back to the costume rental shops, some are retained by the studios for display and some make it to prop/memorabilia houses for sale to the public (either direct sale or ebay or auction houses), some items are the actors personal items and some items just end up in people’s closets thru various arrangements. We work with a number of companies who make items available for purchase and keep our site up to date as a single source on what is available (popular). You can also post on our forum if there is a specific movie you are interested in. Our site also have info on items worn in the movies (though not screen used) that you can buy.
As far as props, yes they either follow the above or go back to storage for use later and/or to the prop rental houses.
